What's New With Us
Wow, another month on the boat has flown by. We spent most of August exploring the islands and inlets in and around the Broughton Archipelago. The scenery and concentration of marine wildlife are incredible, not to mention terrific fishing and crabbing. Best of all, with so many possible places to drop the hook and fewer boaters, we often had a bay or cove to ourselves.
If you like my travel vlogs, you’re lucky because that’s pretty much all I’ve published this month. If not, don’t worry. In the fall, we’ll be back in the RV, and I have many reviews in the pipeline; plus, I'm prepping the boat for winter and the RV for another journey south.

The downside was that it was a bit cooler, there were fewer sunny days, and there was much more fog, especially near Blackfish Sound and as we got later into August. But even those rainy, foggy days were beautiful.
Around mid-month, we made another resupply trip to Port McNeil, spending a night on the dock at North Island Marina. We found we could last about three weeks before renewing our fresh food, etc.
Funny enough, a resupply trip across Blackfish Sound and back yielded the best wildlife sightings of the summer. We had remarkable encounters with a pod of Orca, a massive raft of Sea Otters, and Humpback Whales leaping out of the water! Bookending the trip were black bear sightings.
Another August highlight was a return to Kwatsi Bay. We endured about 30mm (little of an inch of rain) one day, but that turned on the waterfalls. They cascaded down the steep hillsides all around the bay. Something to see and hear, plus a revisit from a small pod of Pacific White-sided Dolphins to top it off.
We have made our way southward this past week. Today, the last day of August, finds us anchored back at Charles Bay in Blind Channel. It is a big favorite of ours from last summer.
The weather was getting cooler and foggier, so it was time to leave the Broughtons. The days are also noticeably shorter, so less daily solar harvest is available to power us off-grid. The fog can be brutal in that regard. Even with 1000W of solar panels on the boat now, the generator was getting a workout.
Once the long weekend ends and most tourists head home, we will return to our home base in Lund. We’ll check on the truck and trailer at the storage yard, resupply in Powell River, and do a mountain of laundry. Then it's off to spend September in the lower Discovery Islands and gorgeous Desolation Sound. Stay tuned!

Amazon now allows video uploads to my shop page. Over the summer, I have been slowly adding a selection of past review videos to my Amazon shops on both the USA and Canada sites. There are now nearly 100 videos showing items I use in the RV or on the boat or reviewed favorites. In the future, I’ll still publish reviews on YouTube and then upload a modified version to Amazon if the item is available there.
Fair Disclosure: I receive a small commission from purchases made through these so-called “Shoppable Videos.” Thanks for your support! For more product information, go to LoveYourRV.com website and use the search bar to find the original blog post/video. Just curious on logistics. Are you able to use your Starlink dish during this tour. If not, what is your internet source.
Ray and Anne, we were Rving in the Port Macneil area when you were cruising the area. The weather at the north end of Vancouver Island certainly can be cooler and wetter than the mid and south end.
Your adventures and Anne's photographs are always interesting, and being filmed and experienced in and around our beautiful islands and coastline makes them all the more enjoyable !
