What's New With Us
August was a fantastic month of boating for us. After a windy and often rainy spell, the weather has turned warmer, sunnier, and calmer. This has allowed us to visit some more remote locations, deeper into the channels and inlets of the beautiful BC coast.
This month, I shared several new anchorages for us, including Moore Bay, Cullen Harbour, Cecil Island, Claydon Bay, and Nimmo Bay. One big highlight was a trip to the end of Kingcome Inlet. The scenery was awe-inspiring with its amazing glacier-fed water colors ranging from a pale yellow to green to brilliant turquoise. Contrasted with the dark green forests, the steep mountain terrain made for quite a sight!
Wildlife viewing hasn’t been quite up to last summer, but that was a high bar to go by. We have still seen our share of black bears, birdlife, sea otters, humpback whales, sea lions, seals, distant Orcas, dolphins, porpoises, and more.
Things have picked up in recent days, though, with a couple of grizzly bear with cubs encounters. Stay tuned for video footage of that treat and the trip up Knight Inlet to Glendale Cove in early September.
On the techie side of things, Vestri had been running great! Not too many issues to report other than a few easily solved leaks here and there, routine maintenance, and a problem with the bow thruster wireless module. I ended up removing it and making the system hard-wired. It’s been a flaky system, so hardwiring it should make it dependable.
I also published a couple of product review updates on our portable ICECO fridge freezer and various things I use for off-grid water storage, transfer, and filtering.
Last summer, by this time, we had already headed southbound many days ago and were anchored at Charles Bay in Blind Channel. But with the recent great weather, we stayed north longer, currently visiting Glendale Cove partway up Knight Inlet.
However, I imagine that soon things will get cooler and wetter as fall draws nearer. We’ll soon be heading back down south to the Discovery Islands and Desolation Sound for our September boating adventures. Stay tuned. :)
