Love Your RV & Boat! Newsletter 03/24
Hello, and welcome to the March 2024 Newsletter. Happy Easter.
What's New With Us
We were off-grid camping in the beautiful Sonoran desert near Ajo, Arizona, when I left you last month. We stayed another week or so before packing up and heading northward as we began a meandering, slow trek back to BC.
On my camping to-do list for this spring was a return visit to an all-time favorite: the Virgin River Canyon Campground. This BLM campground, which has been closed for renovations for several years, reopened in April 2022. It is located in a deep gorge at the northwest tip of Arizona, sandwiched between Nevada and Utah.
Between Ajo and the Virgin Gorge, we stopped off at a pair of scenic locations. First, a new-to-us boondocking location called Snaggletooth Primitive Camp, then an old favorite near the Valley of Fire State Park called Poverty Flats, aka Snowbird Mesa.
We spent ten days in the Virgin River Gorge, welcoming in spring and thoroughly enjoying the beautiful location. The campground is run by the BLM (Bureau of Land Management), but unlike many locations, this one charges a small camping fee. It is affordable, though, at $8 per night or $4 if you are a National Parks Senior or Access pass holder.
One thing to note is that they have gone cashless, and First Come, First Serve payments are now made via a smartphone app. I have a video below detailing the process. They also have some reservation-only campsites. Recreation.gov handles everything.
We are finishing up the month of March camped in a friend's driveway in Mojave, California. It’s a good place to wait out the busy Easter holiday and a stormy cold front moving through the southwest. In April, we plan to tour a couple of wildlife refuges in CA and then head to the Oregon coast for a few weeks.
It will be nice to see and smell the ocean again; anticipation is building for our summer boating fun.

Thanks for checking out my monthly newsletters. I appreciate it. This month, I sent it using a different newsletter/blogging application called Substack. So, it may look and feel a little different to you.
Previous providers charged me a monthly fee to send my newsletters, but Substack is free and has several cool features. Hopefully, it works well.
Cheers! Ray
